Clinging to God is living in his manifested presence/aware of his presence.
John 14:21
Keep my commandments and I will manifest my presence to you.
The reason why we don't cling to him is because we doubt his goodness. Where we believe the goodness of God is where we yield to him.
When we walk with him, yield, cling to him we are empowered by him.
Your posture towards the difficulties of life changes when you know his presence is with you.
